Lacking inspiration

Was at the GUU tonight. Not to practice with my partner though, just to dance.

I also wanted to see the stand-in teacher, so I made sure I was there for the intermediate class (just caught the end of the beginners’ class too.)

I think this was her first time as a Ceroc teacher, though she taxis (or at least used to?), and also teaches the “Ceroc Plus” body movement class.

I thought she did really well. It was a fairly simple routine she taught, but still with some challenge to recent graduates to the intermediate class. (Or maybe these people should still be in the beginners’ class – one or two of them definitely.)

Freestyle… Wasn’t feeling very inspired. Only asked a few folks to dance, otherwise I let people ask me. Maybe not the best way to ensure the best dances, but I’ve become unfamiliar with the GUU crowd so I find it difficult to pick out exactly who I’d like to dance with to a particular piece of music – I let a couple of favourite-ish tracks go by rather than ask a random individual and find myself regretting it.

Music… As I said to the DJ, I currently prefer the sort of music we get at JJ’s on a Tuesday. That’s not to say I don’t like the music at the GUU, but while some people seem to like the same old favourites again and again, I’d like a richer mix of more recent releases, and a bit more of the latin/funky/hip-hop kind of stuff…

Floor… We were downstairs (just as well as the freestyle got quite crowded). I found the floor a bit sticky in random places – especially near the stage where it is normally quite fast. I’m told the upstairs room where the freestyle will be on Saturday has a lovely new fast floor. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Maybe see you there!

Cheers!

Shame I’ll be in the other room most of the night and won’t get to try out the new floor - still there’s always next month!
