Dress Rehearsal!
Up to Dundee today for a dress rehearsal…
Enjoyed it… Feeling good about the whole thing…
I was taking it turn-about, dancing with two different girls – my normal partner and another girl whose partner couldn’t make it. As one of the more experienced couples (compared to the Glasgow folks who only learnt it last weekend) we didn’t need so much time practicing together.
It was interesting the difference in style and technique between the two girls… They both did the routine well, but sometimes the way they did particular moves differed which made me think more about how I lead, and perhaps has improved the way I do the routine.
My partner also was able to watch me and my other partner do the routine from outside and was able to see things she wouldn’t otherwise, which could help us both.
As a group, the main thing we needed to cover was the timing… The tempo is tricky in parts – there’s some long pauses, and places where either a slow pace or a quick pace might make sense. Sometimes I’ve found myself (I only refer to myself here, as it’s me that’s leading most of the time, so I’m mainly responsible for getting the timing right) rushing ahead, so today was valuable to help get us all dancing to the same beats.
The costume thing wasn’t as big a deal as I thought it would be. Everyone had got the clothes they needed, and there were no problems dancing in it – I had thought the ties might get in the way a bit…
Afterwards, some of us had a meal together, and heard about the next routine… Have to give that one some thought…
Anyway, cheers to everybody , thanks to our glorious leaders, and hugs to both my regular partner and my spare…
Finally, big thanks to the fine man who gave me a lift, and his family who helped arrange it.
