Fool’s party

Not so long back from the Glasgow party…

Strange in so many ways, but in mostly good ways…

The bad way was the lack of numbers due to another event happening in Glasgow tonight which many of the regulars had tickets for long before this night was scheduled. But it wasn’t too bad, and there was plenty of folks to dance with, with the numbers being fairly evenly balanced (I’m told – again, I don’t tend to notice unless there are excessive men.)

In fact I didn’t get to dance with lots of the women I wanted to… I guess for a few reasons.

  1. I hardly got a chance to pick who I was going to dance with as I was always being asked (not such a bad situation to find yourself in, but it has these sorts of consequences…)
  2. When I did go looking for some folks I couldn’t find them.
  3. I wasn’t feeling so great and so stopped dancing at around 11pm.

This last point needs some clarification. This evening, before I left for the party, I wasn’t feeling so great, but decided that I felt well enough to give the party a go and see how it went. I was doing quite good too, but by around half 10 I felt I would be better going home early. By 11 I think I might have changed my shoes and got my coat on, but ended up chatting to some friends on my way out the door. I was eventually persuaded to hang around in the blues room, where at least I could chat with folks, and not have so many great tunes with infectious beats making me want to dance.

While I was there, I had one more dance with a friend to something quite slow (without changing my shoes back), but wasn’t at my best, and decided that was my night finished as far as dancing was concerned. But though I couldn’t dance, and eventually even just standing and walking around didn’t feel so great, sitting chatting wasn’t such a problem…

I stayed to the end – sitting with friends and watching folks dancing is definitely better than sitting here typing my blog on my own.

Apart from having to curtail my dancing, I had a really good night. Saw some folks I hadn’t seen for a while (although half of Glasgow was elsewhere, half of Edinburgh had come to Glasgow for our party) and had some good laughs, chats, times and hugs.

The theme was “dress foolishly”, which a few folks did, but some folks really pushed the boat out and came dressed as clowns or jesters or similar. Some of them were even punters, rather than the organisers/crew/DJs. ;)

Shame I didn’t manage to get many photos of them. I managed to get some photos of some friends early on, but later I wasn’t feeling well enough to go to the bother of chasing photo opportunities.

The other thing I guess I should mention is the two-room thing… Think it worked well, though, again I preferred the “mainstream” room to the latin & blues room, though I did have a few dances in the latter, and I survived…

There was also the class… I didn’t arrive in time to do it, but it was a standard beginner’s class with a twist – it was left-handed! Just a shame that two certain friends of mine weren’t there as I know how much they love it when I do left-handed moves with them.

So that was the night… I’ve probably forgotten something… I should be in bed, though while I’m sitting I feel mostly OK…

Thanks to all my partners, sorry to those I didn’t manage to get a dance with. Hope to make up for it soon…

Cheers to all the Edinburgh folks (and Dundee! and Perth!) that made the night. Would have been rather quiet without you… And a lot less fun.

Good night…

I had a great night too Duncan, fab dances (just not enough dances, but ALL of the ones I had were fab!)
Margaret Rose, Linda and Joanne looked brilliant, what an effort they had made.
I’m glad you managed to stay to the end, I agree, a much better idea than going home.
