Too long!
Been to JJ’s – first dancing in over a week!
I’ve been suffering from a nasty cold since I came back from Blackpool, but I’m now feeling fit enough to go dancing!
I expected I’d be too tired to do much though, and only went for the intermediate class and later freestyle, expecting to sit out quite a lot.
Let’s get the class over and done with…
First move swizzle. Did something like this recently with Franck – similar to the first move block, but the girl ends up in a swizzle position. Unwind…
Tea pot sway. Could just as easily be called the step-across sway as there’s more step across than tea pot… Take girl’s RH over you head, let go, block with R, scoot round her back to take her into a sway. Out into a crossed-over hold…
Double-handed ladies comb – elbows out and over – no need to creep the poor girl out while you’re doing it though…
Basket something something… Rather complex basket exit… Do the stupid lean out thing, come round and bring arm over to end in a double-crossed over hold. Keep going round and turn the girl under LH to bring her into a LH wrapped position. Push/turn out…
Can you guess I didn’t like the last move? Didn’t care for the tea-pot sway much either, or the comb, which most girls liked to let go in the middle of, ruining the move. (Or maybe I just wasn’t doing it right. Sounds quite probable.)
I do the first-move swizzle quite a bit these days, though usually go straight into a step-across type of thing directly after it, rather than unwinding it… Maybe I should put in some mambo steps here… Whatever…
(Sorry, in a funny mood…)
On to the freestyle… We had a substitute teacher today, and a substitute DJ… She played lots of good music, mostly stuff I’ve danced to before, but I missed dancing to some of the JJ regular tunes. Maybe there was more of that in the first freestyle.
Anyway, lots of good music, lots of good dances. Good to get a dance to “This is my DJ” again…
I was worried that not having danced for over a week I’d be a bit rusty, but having the class before I got a chance to dance must have warmed me up a bit, and helped get my dancing brain in gear, as it felt just like any other night. And while I’d expected to need to rest more, I hardly sat out any track – no more than 2 or 3, I’d guess…
Anyway, over a week was too long to go without dancing, though it was good when people had said they had missed me last week. Didn’t think that many people would have noticed…
Cheers to everyone, thanks to Sheena for the cool tunes and fab dance. Hope to see you all again soon.
