Fab night in a not-so-empty hall

GUU tonight. What a difference a week can make.

Just went for the freestyle, though saw the end of the intermediate class. Looked like a good set of moves tonight. :)

Big difference was the number of people. Much, much better compared with last week. Last week it was a case of dancing with some folks two or three times as there was no-one else. This week it was strictly by choice.

Had lots of good dances, really enjoyed myself. One lady called me a “great dancer”, though she was just trying to stop me being self-deprecating. There’s two definitions of self-deprecating I can find…

  1. tending to undervalue oneself and one’s abilities.
  2. conscious of your own shortcomings

In this case, I’m going with the second definition, even though she thought I was being the first.

The matter at hand was why I don’t do (many) dips or drops. I know I’m just not good at them – I want to do them where they fit the music, and I never seem to be there at the right time, so I don’t get to practice them much… So I’m not good at them…

Maybe it’ll come. Perhaps it’s also because we don’t get taught them very much either, so I don’t get to practice them with many different women.

The same lady told me she’d noticed a difference in my dancing since before Christmas… Not sure about that, maybe I am better, or maybe just more used to leading her as I have done a few times over the last month or so…

Dunno. It’s hard to be objective. I have noticed I’m using more moves than I used to, which gives more variety to my dancing, so that’s a plus, but not noticed any other big changes…

Anyway, had some fab dances, saw some friends, went home happy. Hope you did something similar tonight. :)
