Not Salsa week 9…

Went for my last Salsa class of the year, but it was cancelled…

Just to emphasis how poor the venue we were using, our teacher only learnt when she arrived for her earlier class that there was going to be a private party on that night and wouldn’t be able to do any classes. From what I understand the bar wants to develop itself as a popular salsa venue – this sort of behaviour isn’t going to make them popular with anyone.

But I did get some salsa last night, as through an strange set of circumstances I found myself at a truly popular salsa venue later last night… I was there with a group of girls, but met up with some work colleagues, one of whom had done some salsa and wanted me to dance…

Well I had a go, but the music was too fast, and I was too tired and my brain wasn’t working, so it didn’t go well, and I avoided the dance floor after that.

I did have the opportunity to show some of the girls I was with some dance moves – Ceroc, Salsa and Merengue…

The Ceroc demo was very simple, and worked well, but it was much harder getting a novice to follow my salsa demonstration. It was much easier doing Merengue though – that was easy and fun… Might also have a new recruit to Ceroc too…

Meanwhile I learnt that the female assistant to our Salsa teacher has only done about 3 months of Salsa! That means she had only done a few weeks before we started our course at the beginning of October! But she has been doing loads of dancing since she was wee and so must have picked up Salsa in no time at all.

Well I’ve got to decide whether to go back to salsa in the new year… What do people think?

Go on, leave a comment…

Have to say it’s the music that kills Salsa for me………….love it for the first 5 minutes and then spend the next hour wondering when they’re gonna change the record. Unfair of me, I know, but hey - what do I know about salsa music?

I’d say if you’re enjoying it then go back, if it’s a chore then…………………..

Sheena (the big help! )

I came oacross your postings whilst looking for something from Ceroc.

I also dance salsa and I’m pleased (is that right) to read that I am not the only one who wonders about continuing with salsa. My partner dances with me and she too has danced since she was a girl and I find it so frustrating when she picks up everything she is shown! I was out on Wednesday and the music was really too fast for me. I have been dancing salsa for just short of a year and feel that I’m getting nowhere, and often feel like giving it up. My partner keeps me going telling me that I will get better when I relax.

Ceroc, on the other hand, is relatively simple and I’m at a reasonable standard after just six months!

Keep trying salsa! I’m sure it will work for me in the end, but Ceroc is the most enjoyable. It’s even better when you mix the two and astound a few of the onlookers - especially with the merengue :-)
