Salsa week 8

Much better week at Salsa this week, though I’m not exactly sure why…

Maybe I was just in a better mood generally. My sore eye seems to be getting better, and my wrist too. But certainly also because the class went a lot more to my liking.

After the usual warm-up, we went almost straight into a Rueda wheel to work on our moves, with lots of dames moving us round quickly. Also good was that we had extra guys this week, so the teacher and her lady assistant were making up the numbers. It’s not often we guys get the opportunity to dance with someone who we know for sure knows what they are doing during the class. :)

Most of what we did was revising stuff we had done last week. It helped a lot. I think we only did one new move this week – the Something Bajo??? It’s a much simpler version of the Something move…

It’s like another move we did last week where we split the dile que no into two – after the first half bring the girl around us front then back – then finish the move with the usual cross-body dile que no lead, before doing a two-handed back-to-back turn, into the closed position again. In this move when we bring the girl round behind us, we go into a half-nelson with our left hand and as we lead the girl across in front of us, we duck under their arm to come out cross-handed for a two-handed enchufe. Good fun.

What was also fun (though maybe a bit evil) is comparing my progress against my friend, the karate man. The teacher spent a lot of time correcting his footwork, and her assistant also told him off for not getting things right. In contrast, the assistant lady said I was doing really well, and I got a congratulations from the teacher when I was apparently the only person there who remembered what a Exhibela Ronde was, and could do it.

When I was dancing with the teacher she did correct some aspect of my dancing, and I was no-where near perfect, but what I am especially chuffed about is that I pay little attention to what me feet are doing, but she doesn’t have big complaints about them. They must have more-or-less got themselves sorted out. :D

Next week is our last class apparently. Hope it is as good as this one was. 8)
