Not my best night…
Just back from the GUU. I really shouldn’t hang about chatting for so long, but it was fun. Sorry to the other guys I was supposed to be going for a drink with – I’ll be buying next time, promise!
Because it’s late, this’ll be a short one, but I’ll try to update it later, so watch for that.
Beginner moves: first move push spin, back pass, octopus, side-to-side shoulders.
Intermediate moves: Some wurlitzer variation, involving shoulder hooking, and wrapping in and across; octopus with a added turn of the lady after the man’s turn and a spin; one-handed catapult into a spin; one of those spins was a ceroc spin, but I can’t think just now which one.
All the moves I managed fairly easily after a few goes. I must be getting better in some ways… A few people told me I was doing well, both with the class and freestyle. However…
Well my freestyle dances weren’t so bad, but I’ve forgotten almost all my intermediate moves. I feel like I’ve got back a month or two, when I’d just started the intermediate classes and all I knew was a pretzel and a couple of basket variations.
Help!

I didn’t know that you weren’t having a good night, you seemed fine to me! Maybe you were just having a kind of ‘off-night’ like me,lol. The Intermediate moves looked good, I did the first one and it seemed pretty straight forward, don’t know about the others though… Don’t worry about remembering the Intermediate moves that will come with time-i’m sure of it! Maybe if you find a dance partner then you can practice the moves together and all will be good!

I find that, when I’m dancing the lead, straight after the class I can do the intermediate moves, but come next week, eek …………I still use moves in freestyle that I learned when I first started, yet can’t remember what I did in class a month ago.
It’s hard for a lead, IMHO, to force themselves to use newer moves that they perhaps can’t lead so well whilst still trying to give their partner a good dance.
It’s that old muscle memory chestnut - ain’t it?
For me, the problem lies with loving dancing as a girl too - not enough leading practice.
Don’t be too hard on yourself, it really is early doors yet and you are developing a very good lead, gentle yet definite - just the way it should be.
I’m so happy to see that you’re enjoying yourself and that you stuck with us hug

I’m miles away down here but just a thought for trying to build in the new moves you’re learning.
You may already be doing this….
Why not ask a few ladies (not too many) if they particularly liked one of the intermediate moves taught. Dance it with her during the freestyle, make sure you agree a name for it and then offer to serve that move up to her each week, or whenever she requests it. You can then end up with a few women who will make a request for their favourite move from you, so they help you to remember the new moves.
You give them a move they love and they help you remember something new, everybody is happy. If you both forget the move then you can just pick another one. I always feel so special when my ‘requested’ move is done, even years and years later I still notice!
